Transformation and Life with Posa Journals founder Indira WhiteIndira’s storyPre-2023Flashback time…
Once upon a time, Indira and I crossed paths living in Ithaca in upstate New York. The first time I met Indi was more than 10 years ago. She then went by her maiden name, Indira Dominguez, and was the modern dance teacher at the Community School of Music and Arts on E. MLK / State Street. I was CSMA’s administrative assistant. To this day, Indira is still a captivating dancer—bachata, flamenco, modern, you name it. We danced together in our past lives, and I imagine we’ll go on dancing in our future lives as well. I know this is a web design portfolio case study… But I find it helpful to give a little bit of context and insight into the full humanity behind the story. Yes, we’d met IRL. First and foremost. Indira has always been someone so giving. Giving of her time, her energy, her positivity, and her friendship. Her skills. As a seamstress in a family of tailors, she gives her hands to threads and homemade pieces for friends. Once she even created for me the perfect dance pants that were just my size. They were my favorite and I wrote them threadbare, until I woefully had to retire them. She also generously volunteered when we danced together for “Dancing For A Cause,” to raise funds for the local nonprofit Suicide Prevention & Crisis Service of Tompkins County. For years Indira and her husband raised her niece, Claudia, during Clau’s formative years, before Clau’s return to the Dominican Republic. I tell the backstory because everything Indira gave to the world through her hands, her heart, and her spirit has been a blessing. It’s been life giving. 2023 And onA lot shifted for Indira in 2023, after I had moved away from the area. In June 2023, she had a difficult diagnosis of breast cancer. At the same time, she had the very wonderful news that she and her husband were due to give birth to a baby boy that coming January. In the Posa Journals website, Indi writes about her experience in a blog called Silver Linings: a story of pregnancy and breast cancer.
