A look at the next phase of my website practice
One year with Maple Creative
Back from Portugal
Happy Sunday, Reader!
On my bus ride to Portugal last Wednesday, I drafted a new resolve.
I intend to master website strategy for wellness entrepreneurs with online courses and in-person retreats.
I was a bit in shock and in awe of the steadiness of my hand. I suppose a vision for my website practice has come into focus.
Here's what I want to hold and support as practitioners build toward a multi-offer infrastructure:
editorial storytelling site
course/membership library
hybrid model (online + live offerings)
1:1 bookings with application-based intake
In-person retreat marketing
community
digital products
email marketing
In other words, these healers, educators & artists may seek the full stack with "all the frills," and I want to provide that infrastructure support.
This doesn't have to all unfurl in year one for any one creator. It can be built in small, manageable bits over the long-term.
One year with Maple Creative
Flashback to summer 2022, with Maple co-founders Ryan and Friede
For creatives such as us, amidst uncertain times, the path isn't always clear or linear. But I love that Maple has seen me through this pivot into remote work where I can be seen, appreciated, valued... and successful as a web designer.
Earlier this summer I told Alexandra, a friend and website client, that I had rejected my artist soul all my life. Only recently have I been on the inner child healing path of reclaiming aspects of this identity lost to core wounds (a story for another day).
This is all to say that I never thought I'd be a designer in any capacity. I had gaslighted that out of me. But here we are. I am so grateful for it and for collaborating with Maple.
A few teachers, businesses, and projects worth emulating...
Lizzie Lasater: online yoga education business
Lizzie Lasater’s main website (stylish!) is here, adjacent to her course platform below. I also love the copy in this Instagram post: "You didn't become a yoga teacher to create content... You didn't become a massage therapist to send newsletters."
I was introduced to this acroyoga teacher while on the bus from Portugal. Paul, who shared the link, was also leaving a yoga retreat in Southern Portugal. Great website showing that you can combine your passions.
Sigh. If you've known me for any length of time, then you know that Portugal is a very special place for me. My first visit there was in 2012, followed by 2019 and 2021, until finally returning five years later just now. There is probably a lot to say here, but I've been reticent. Only vague responses to friends asking. I think it is because I'm still processing, integrating post-trip. But I loved it. I loved the nature, the community, the building and yes, the yoga also.
I was reminded of the power of the retreat for ritual, a time of collective gathering to remember. And the beauty of retreats is that they set up all the right conditions to get right into yoga practice: proximity to a yoga shala, coffee ready in the morning, and enthusiastic yogi friends from all over.
I so appreciated the space to come back together... to myself, to the land, and to the community.
Happy Building, Shayna
P.S. What are you building toward? If so moved, reply to let me know. I'd love to hear it.
